Welcome to Radio Forward :
“The New Top Level Domain process is very complicated! RadioForward.com will provide detailed information on what the Radio Industry needs to know about .RADIO Top Level Domain Applicants”
The Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC) has been in existence since 1999 and the European Broadcast Union (EBU) was formed in 1950.
So, why did the EBU feel the need to join the GAC in 2012?
The .radio Registry (EBU) intends to propose (Lobby) to ICANN’s Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC) and, if approved submit to ICANN for final approval an exception to allow the .radio Registry to use some or all of those (Country Names Restricted by the current ICANN Rules) itself, in the following circumstances (commercial activities).
- As a conflict-resolution mechanism to accommodate multiple applications for the same string, from radios located in different countries. Example:radio-name.countryA.radio and radio-name.countryB.radio. (Selling the same domain name, under different country ’2nd level domains’ names to different registrants, thereby increasing the revenue to the EBU under the .radio TLD – i.e. b92.germany.radio VS b92.spain.radio VS www.b92.radio)
- Alternatively, for the Registry’s own use to provide directory-like services of radio stations and services for each individual country and territory. (Having the EBU create a country based directory under the .radio TLD for each country – i.e. www.germany.radio, www.spain.radio for the financial AND commercial benefit of the EBU by monetizing these directories.)
–> The European Broadcast Union (EBU), one of the New TLD Applicants for the string .RADIO, attempts to game the New TLD process by joining ICANN’s Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC) for it’s own “commercial activities” See: BRS Media Responds to Reports That EBU has Joined ICANN’s Governmental Advisory Committee & http://www.brsmedia.fm/GAC.pdf
